2nd test 4th day: South Africa wins the second test by 282 runs


South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 282 runs on the fourth day of the 2nd test match played at Cape Town. The Sri Lankan batsmen were dismissed for 224.

Sri Lanka began the fourth day on 130 for 4. Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews added 14 runs before Chandimal was dismissed by Rabada for 30. Angelo Mathews tried to steady the innings with some good strokes to the boundary. Upul Tharanga scored 3 boundaries but was dismissed playing a poor stroke. In the same over Angelo Mathews was dismissed by Rabada for 49.

The tail tried to hang but the South African bowling was too good for the Sri Lankans. Nuwan Pradeep was the last batsmen to be dismissed while Rangana Herath remained not out on 33. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 224 giving South Africa a massive 282 runs win to take the series.

South Africa struggled in the first innings but good knocks from Quinton De Kock, Elgar helped the host post a total of 392. Sri Lankan batting failed to cope with the top quality bowling by South Africa. For his great performance with the ball, Rabada was the named of match.

The third test match will be held in Johannesburg from 12th January. South Africa will be looking for a clean sweep while Sri Lanka would be looking to end the test series on a high.

South Africa 392( Dean Elgar 129, De Kock 101, Kumara 6/122) and 224 for 7 declared beat Sri Lanka 110( Tharanga 26, Rabadda 4/37, Phailnder 4/27) and 224( Angelo Mathews 49, Rabadda 6/55) by 282 runs.
