Ian Chappell’s comments were uncalled for : Misbah-ul-Haq

Pakistani captain Misbah-ul-Haq quickly responded to this strong statement citing recent examples of Australia’s defeat in Asia and warning Chappell that Asian teams might resort to the same logic. “I believe those comments were uncalled for and unbecoming of someone who has a vast experience of playing and watching cricket”, read his column in CricketAU.

“..Australia themselves have been on the losing side in the recent away tours. If we apply Chappell’s comments to Australia, does that mean if they continue to get whitewashed on the subcontinent on a regular basis then they should also not travel there?”

Following the 3-0 whitewash, Chappell claimed, “Pakistan have now lost 12 Test matches on the trot in Australia, and somebody’s got to give them a kick up the bum,“. He went on to say that, “Cricket Australia have got to start saying ‘listen if things don’t improve we will stop with the invites’.”

This made the Pakistani skipper speak about the nine consecutive defeats the Aussies faced in Asia referring to 0-4 in India, 0-2 against Pakistan in UAE and 0-3 in Sri Lanka. “Australia themselves have been on the losing side in the recent away tours. They were clean swept by a Sri Lanka side that did not have Mahela Jayawardena or Kumar Sangakkara and some of their players didn’t even have 10 Tests to their names”, he wrote.

Misbah also spoke about Pakistan’s performance in Australia in a series of tweets.

Australia are now set to face India in a four match test series that begins in February.
