England beat India A by 3 wickets in first warm up match


In Dhoni’s last match as a captain in Indian colours, England beat India A by 3 wickets in a high scoring tie at Braboune Stadium. On the back of a century by Rayadu, quick fire half centuries by Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh helped India A score a total of 304.  England batsmen played well and chase down the target with 7 balls to spare.

Winning the toss, England elected to field. India A openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mandeep Singh started slowly. Mandeep Singh was the first batsmen to be dismissed for 8 runs. In the first 10 overs, India A scored only 33 runs for 1 wicket. After the powerplay overs, Shikhar Dhawan and Rayadu struggled to time the ball. Both players started to attack the England spinners and completed their half centuries. In the 29th over Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for 63 ending a 106 runs stand for the second wicket. At the end of 30 overs, India A were 141 for 2. Yuvraj Singh came to the crease and smashed the England bowlers left, right and centre. Rayadu completed his century and was then retired hurt which gave a chance to MS Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni played some wonderful strokes. Yuvraj Singh completed his half century and was dismissed for 56. MS Dhoni looked in excellent form hitting 23 runs towards the end to help India A post 304 for 4 in 50 overs.

Chasing a target of 305, England openers Alex Hales and Jason Roy provided a solid start by hitting boundaries. In the first 10 overs, England scored 58 runs. After the powerplay, both players continued to score runs at ease. Kuldeep Yadav gave the breakthrough in the 15th over when he took the wicket of Alex Hales ending a 95 runs partnership. 2 overs later Kuldeep Yadav got the other opener, Jason Roy. Eoin Morgan was dismissed by Chahal soon thereafter.

Jos Buttler and Sam Billings put up an excellent partnership of 79 runs stand for the fourth wicket before Jos Buttler was dismissed for 46. Moeen Ali was dismissed the next ball to leave England at 191 for 5. Sam Billings and Liam Dawson added 99 runs for the sixth wicket partnership to get England closer to the target. Liam Dawson was dismissed for 41 while Sam Billings was dismissed for well made 93. Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes guided England to a 3 wickets win.

England 307 for 7( Sam Billings 93, Kuldeep Yadav 5/60) beat India 304 for 4 in 50 overs(Rayadu 100 retired hurt, MS Dhoni 68, Yuvraj Singh 56)
