The Cricket Association of Bengal has decided to felicitate MS Dhoni during the third ODI between India and England to be played at Eden Gardens on 22nd January.
Dhoni was one of greatest captain in One-day internationals in the world.
He has done a lot for Indian cricket winning 3 ICC major trophies. In 2007, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won the first World T20 in South Africa with an inexperienced squad. After that, he was given the ODI captaincy. In 2011, after 28 years, MS Dhoni led side won the 50 over World Cup held in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. 2 years later, the captain cool won his 3rd major ICC tournament. He won the ICC champions trophy held in 2013.
Also under his captaincy, India became the number 1 ranked team in test matches which was a great achievement. He has won 18 bilateral tournaments including 2 Asia Cups tournament.
He suddenly retired from test cricket in 2014. From 2011 onwards, under his captaincy the Indian team lost 6 successive overseas series. On 4th January 2017, MS Dhoni stepped down from captaincy in ODI and T20 format after poor results in the past year.
Dhoni played his last match as a captain during the first warm up match against England at Braboune Stadium. He scored 68 off 40 balls but India A lost the match by 3 wickets.
Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket has been immense, as he has been leading the country and also showing his class with bat and with gloves. Now with Dhoni stepping down as captain, the man from Ranchi can now play freely in the upcoming limited over series against England.
