Team India is likely to get a new sponsor. Before Star, Team India was sponsored by Sahara for 13 years. At the moment, Star is the sponsor for Men in Blue. Star is sponsoring the team for more than 3 years.
An interesting fact is that the current sponsor star is paying only 1.9 crores per match to BCCI which is just more than a half of which Sahara was paying. “All the sponsors who are attached with BCCI would be interested in grabbing this opportunity. Reliance Jio, for example, would be very keen to use this platform,” a BCCI official said.
BCCI CEO Rahul Johri said the tender is going to be released very soon. Star India and Star Sports, Jana, Hyundai, Pepsi, Paytm, Nike and Vivo are the sponsors which might become the team India sponsors.
With the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 to be held in England this year, team India is likely to play with the new sponsor. The contract of the team will expire soon. The discussions for the same will done on 17th February.
Sahara was team India sponsor from 2003 to 2013. Because of some disputes, Sahara ended their sponsorship in 2013. Sahara usually paid 3 Crores per match to BCCI.
