In the earlier 2 games, Sri Lanka had got a decent opening stand. Dickwella and Gunathilka provided them early stability with good run-rates. But with the ball moving a bit, Indian pacers, specially Bumrah was utilizing the conditions well. In his second over, he pinned Dickwella in-front of the stumps and umpire Wilson raised his finger. Dickwella after a brief discussion went for the DRS. The ball had pitched outside of the leg-stump. The decision overruled, Deickwella survived but only to last another couple of balls. Bumrah was bowling quick, her bowled a yorker pinning Dickwella again but this time umpire shook his head. Kohli went for the review after Bumrah asked and the replays showed it was crashing the middle stump.

On the other hand wicket-less Bhuvneshwar Kumar was swinging the ball beautifully but had few unlucky fours under his name when fielder didn’t support him well. Coming back into the side after January 2016 was Thirimane, he along with Chandimal steadied the ship for the Sri Lankans with a good partnership. Rest of the Sri Lankan team couldn’t do much. Chahal and Patel bowled their quota of overs very economically in the middle without giving much to the Sri Lankans. The rain came down heavily and players were taken off for a short period of time. Bumrah nailed down the stumps to get his 1st five wicket haul in the ODIs. Sri Lanka were restricted to a small total of 217.

Shikhar Dhawan became Malinga’s 299th victim in the 3rd over of the innings when he was bowled. Rohit Sharma was looking in great touch but looked like he was running out of partners when Kohli, Rahul, and Jadhav were back in the pavilion by 15th over with the score of 60. Last match’s sensation Dananjayan again cause troubles to Rahul and Jadhav and accounting both of them again.
