The newly appointed skipper this season of Rising Pune Supergiants Steve Smith had said indirectly that he’d not seek former RPS skipper MS Dhoni’s opinion and would like to lead in his own way.
Steve Smith during his first press conference for RPS had said, “I have plenty of guys to talk to, but I will not seek too many opinions. Seeking too many opinions can cloud your own judgement. I want to try and stay as clear as possible. But yes, if someone sees something and feels the need to point it out to me, they are more than welcome,”
In the recently concluded match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant at the Wankhede, it was confirmed that Steve Smith takes tips from the former Indian captain MS Dhoni during the crucial circumstances.
RPS batting first set a total of 160. 24 runs were needed in the last two overs for Mumbai Indians to get over the line. Rohit Sharma was on the crease and was well set and nearing half century. On the other end was destructive Hardik Pandya, who had arrived just after the dismissal of Kieron Pollard.
Ben Stokes was given the responsibility of bowling the decisive 19th over. Ben Stokes gave just seven runs in the over which tilted the match heavily in the favour of the RPS. But the duo of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were still on the crease.
After the over Steve Smith was seen running towards MS Dhoni to seek tips. Probably those tips might have worked for the RPS as they won the game by 3 runs. This is not the first time, after winning the first match against Mumbai Indians this season, Ajinkya Rahane had revealed the RPS skipper takes tips from the MSD.
“Though Steve Smith has led the Australian side very well, for me, MS Dhoni is still the best leader. This was the first game as a leader for Smith, but he was learning from Dhoni as well.Smith was seen taking more tips from him. Dhoni was seen giving tips and inputs to Smith in the middle,” Rahane told during the post-match presentation.
