South Africa thrashed Sri Lanka by 206 runs on the final day of first test match played at Port Elizaberth. South Africa took little time to wrap up the last 5 wickets to seal the first match with ease.

Starting the fifth day on 240 for 5, South African pace bowlers struck picking the wickets of Angelo Mathews and De Silva. Rangana Herath too was dismissed for a low score. Suranga Lakmal remained not out on 19 hitting 3 boundaries. Chameera and Nuwan Pradeep were the last two batsmen to be dismissed. Sri Lanka was bowled out for 281 handing South Africa a big 206 win.

Abbott picked 2 wickets while Philander, Maharaj and Rabbadda picked 1 wicket each to end the match for South Africa. South Africa played excellent cricket to dismiss Sri Lanka for 205 after being bowled out for 286 in their first innings.

Stephen Cook was named the man of the match for his brilliant performances in both the innings. Sri Lanka did well but were poor with the bat in both innings which cost them the match.

The second test match starts from 2nd January with South Africa taking a 1-0 lead.
