India won two back to back matches against Australia. Last night they won the match by 50 runs in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Though in the last game at Chennai, the game was interrupted by rain, the match at Kolkata did happen full overs without any interruptions and it was a hell of a match.
Winning the toss for the second time, the team chose to bat first. Rahane scored a fifty but the star was the Indian Skipper Virat Kohli who scored his 45th ODI fifty but fell short of 8 runs to complete his 31st ODI ton. But that was some scintillating innings.
India set Australia a target of 253 runs but when the Aussies came into bat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t let them go away and made life difficult for David Warner and Hilton Cartwright. Though India’s score was not above par and at one time Smith’s innings made things bleak and took Australia on the driving seat, thanks to Dhoni‘s lightening stumping that broke the partnership.
Bhuvneswar played in an excellent way and on the other side Kuldeep, the young chinaman got his ODI hattrick debut. He became the third Indian after Kapil Dev and Chetan Sharma to achieve that feat. He also is the first spinner in history to achieve this feat in ODI formats.
India was way behind Australia and South Africa in the ICC ODI Rankings. With this two back to back wins. India was in the second position (116 points) before this match, below South Africa (118 points). Now, with two wins, team India is just one step behind to become No.1 in ODI rankings.
The team is already number one in the test rankings. India will next take on Australia at Indore.
