Ever since the defeat of team India in the finals of Champions Trophy 2017 against Pakistan, the BCCI selectors made it a point to experiment with team selection for making the perfect team for 2019 World Cup. Skipper Virat Kohli to consents with this thought.
After West Indies Series and whitewashing Sri Lanka in tests India’s all rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were given rest. New talents like Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya and much more were recalled for the limited overs of the game. And the matter is that these players outstood. Manish scored whenever the team needed and played match winning knocks. Patel clinched in wickets with Bumrah getting man of the series for his spell. Chahal too broke a lot of spines of partnerships with his spin attack. That’s when chances of the comeback of India’s two ace bowlers and all rounders look bleak.
Even though India is experimenting for middle order batsman, Manish Pandey seems to excel and failing fitness tests keep Yuvraj and Raina out of the scene.
There has been all kind of speculations going around that whether India’s two prime spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested or dropped from the Indian ODI set up. The Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri made it clear that the side can’t play both of the spinners all the time.
Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal looks promising and selectors are trying to get the best of the team and it’s legitimate to keep on rotating to keep a close view. Ashwin is busy in county cricket whereas Jadeja is out of his game. There is ample time for these stars to get back to their game.
Ravi Shastri told India Today, “We can’t play Ashwin and Jadeja all the time. There is enough time for Ashwin to get back into the team because the World Cup is still two years away. Emphasis has to be on Test cricket”.
After the conflict about India’s head coach, team members were happy to welcome Shastri as the one man to guide them. Shastri confirmed that he received all smiles and welcome as he entered the dressing room.
“When I came back, there were smiles everywhere in the dressing room. The nucleus of the players is very much same as what it was when I was there. There was no trust factor in the dressing room but that changed quickly”. he concluded.
India has been on a winning streak from there on defeating Indies and Whitewashing by 9-0 against Lankans. Shastri will now look to seal the India vs Australia series first ahead of the long home season commencing.
