India captain Virat Kohli continues his reign perching at the top of ODI batsmen’s rankings. The report was released by the ICC on 18th Friday.
Right now, Kohli has an aggregate of 873 points, 12 points clear over the next placed David Warner. He has an excellent opportunity to further widen his dominance in ODI series against Sri Lanka. AB de Villiers, Joe Root and Babar Azam are the other players featuring in top 5 in descending order.
Amongst other Indians, MS Dhoni (12th), Shikhar Dhawan (13th) and India vice-captain Rohit Sharma (14th) would have a chance to break into the top 10.
The ODI bowling chart lead by Josh Hazlewood doesn’t feature any Indian. Bhuvneshwar Kumar at 13th is the highest-ranked Indian bowler.
ICC World Cup qualification
India is sitting at number three position with 114 points. However, they will need to win the upcoming series against Sri Lanka at least by a 4-1 margin to retain the position.
Sri Lanka is dangerously placed eighth with the cut-off date for direct qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 coming close. They need to ensure at least two wins against India to have a chance of directly getting a berth in the tournament.
The cut-off date for direct qualification into the event is September 30. The bottom four sides in the list will have to qualify by playing in an event. They will be competing with the top four sides from the ICC World Cricket League Championship and top two sides from the ICC World Cricket League.
The top two teams from this event will qualify for the 2019 World Cup in England. This will be a 10-team tournament with other eight teams coming through direct qualification.
